About

Montes is one of Chile’s most famous wineries. Located in Apalta, in the key wine region of the Colchagua Valley region, it has a reputation for producing intense and complex reds. Founded in 1987, its debut wine was a Cabernet Sauvignon and that’s still produced today, alongside Carmenere, Malbec, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and whites in Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Montes’ wines have been well received by critics, with the standout being its Purple Angel; a Carmenere 2015, it was scored at 99 points by James Suckling. Montes winery has replicated its success formula beyond borders, landing on Argentina in 2002 with its subsidiary Kaiken, and in Napa Valley in 2006.
