La Cité du Vin, Bordeaux

Located on the River Garonne and awarded the International Best of Wine Tourism Award in 2019, La Cite du Vin is a unique wine museum in the heart of Bordeaux.

Steel architecture surrounded by water

Designed by Anouk Legendre and Nicolas Desmazières from the architectural firm XTU, this stunning piece of contemporary architecture aims to evokes the swirl of wine in a glass; ‘seamless roundness, intangible and sensual’ (XTU Architects).

The museum offers masterclasses and pop-up events, as well as guided tours of its 20 thematic spaces. Through immersive and sensory staging, visitors are enlightened about all aspects of the wine world. To finish, visitors enjoy a wine tasting in the Belvédère Restaurant which offers a breath-taking view of the city.

Importantly, this 3-year-old structure is a tribute to centuries of wine history and a reminder that Bordeaux faces forward, whilst never forgetting its past.
